Thea is Free

On the 25th September last year, now well over three months ago, Thea was arrested and escorted to prison following a banner drop down a street lantern on the university campus of Saarbrücken. The banner read “Diese Uni rodet Wld” (this uni cuts forest), in opposition to the proposed clearcutting of the nearby forest of St. Johann (Hanni), which houses the occupation barrio Hanni.

After descent and subsequent arrest, Thea was imprisoned in the JVA Saarbrücken, to await transportation to JVA Willich and eventual prosecution in Mönchengladbach. Accusations where made that they would have previously assaulted a cop in the vicinity of Lützerath, a former village that had been occupied, then evicted to make way for an open-pit coal mine.

After over one and a half months and significant delay, Thea’s submitted legal identity was acknowledged and they were freed. They have now been free for over two months. The court hearing is still pending.
